So how did it all begin?

Almost 30 years ago, I was given the amazing news that my Best Friend was getting married and that I was the Best Man. I quickly realised that I would have to come up with a speech. Knowing that I would be facing a particularly partisan crowd, I had to come up with something that was from the heart, thoughtful, engaging, funny and memorable but most importantly, it had to properly mark the occasion.

Bearing in mind that back then, the internet was not what it is now. There was no Social Media, no Blogs, no YouTube and basically no such thing as Online Research.

I had completed a Certificate in Public Speaking from the Royal Irish Academy of Music as part of my college course, so I had a good foundation to build on. I gathered some stories and I made my way to the library (several times) to put it all together.

Fast forward a few months and the Wedding Day arrived. The Crowd was well oiled, raucous and the Hecklers were out in force! I was nervous but because I had prepared in advance and coached myself, I managed to deliver a great speech plus I really enjoyed doing it. To this day, I still get people approaching me remembering the speech as one of the best that they have heard at a wedding.

Since then I became known as the Speech Writer. I have helped people to write speeches for:

Weddings - Bride and Groom, Father and Mother of the Bride and Best Man

Birthdays - 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th and 60th

Funerals - Eulogies (including one on my Honeymoon for my Uncle who passed away the day after my Wedding)

And many more.

Writing a speech can be a daunting task in itself. Standing up and delivering that speech in front a crowd of people is entirely different prospect, particularly if Public Speaking is not something that you are used to. I can help you with both. With the right speech and the right coaching, you too can deliver a speech to remember as a once off or throughout your life.
